The Andrew Freedman Home on the Grand Concourse in the Bronx has stood abandoned since the 1980s, but recently a renovation project has unearthed a number of relics, many of which have been incorporated into various sculptures and installations as part of an art exhibit called "This Side of Paradise" which has opened the grandiose house up to the public for the first time in decades.
During my week in New York, I had to visit.
I went a little farther than I was allowed.
Most of the rooms on the third floor - one floor above the exhibits - are still peeling, crumbling, tattered.
And what little is left in them is of little worth.
So what you really feel is who's missing...
...the elderly, formerly rich who lived out their last days in style.
